Event notes:
Artists of North Fremantle Catch Up — An informal social get-together for artists, creatives and anyone interested in the local arts community.
Friday Night Feeds — Our fresh, affordable food served every Friday night. The menu changes every week with options for meat eaters and vegetarians. We are always taking on feedback and working on improvements here.
Musicians Jam Session — A relaxed, community-led music session open to singers and instrumentalists of all experience levels.
Community-Led Events
We’ve had a growing number of people in the community approach us with ideas for how the Bowlo can be used — and we welcome that. While we’re not always in a position to run or program these events ourselves, we’re very happy to help facilitate, support and promote community-led activities.
A great example of this is happening on Sunday the 8th of February, when Gloria will be running our first Musicians Jam Session. In January, Wendy also stepped up to coordinate a series of Life Drawing sessions, showing just how much can happen when community members take the lead.
There are plenty of other ways the space could be used too — from a Sunday pool table competition or tabletop gaming catch-ups (we have a small games library and access to more), through to dance classes, workshops, craft, or something entirely different.
If you’ve got an idea and are willing to take the lead, we’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s during member open hours or at another suitable time such as a weeknight, get in touch and let’s see how we can make it work together.
GoFundMe Updates
As of Tuesday the 4th of February, the Committee has signed off on two major projects made possible through the GoFundMe campaign.
The kitchen range hood installation — the final major piece required to make the kitchen fully operational — has now been approved. We’ve also reached agreement for the installation of new keg lines with a local brewery, helping ensure cold beer continues to flow reliably from the taps. Both of these upgrades are expected to be completed within the month.
While this represents a significant step forward, there’s still more we’d like to achieve. Items remaining on our wish list include cool room upgrades, playing green restoration, additional outdoor shade, a better PA system to support live music nights and improved air conditioning.
These improvements are only achievable with continued community support. Every contribution helps us reinvest back into the Bowlo and improve the space for everyone who uses it. If you are able to help the link is GoFundMe
Bookings
We’ve kicked the year off with plenty happening around the Bowlo, but there’s often still room to take on more bookings — particularly during the week.
If you’ve got something to celebrate, need a bit more space, or are looking to host a gathering, meeting, or private function, get in touch. Weeknight bookings in particular are a great way to make use of the space in a relaxed and affordable setting.
Merch Updates
Some of you may have noticed the Bowlo Caps on display behind the bar — good news, we're hoping they will arrive in a few weeks and will then be available for sale. We’re also planning to order more shirts in the larger sizes, which have been sold out for a while.
We’re also thinking ahead about a few other items that might actually be useful for people, such as hoodies and beanies for the cooler months or perhaps bucket hats or tote bags when things warm up again.
Nothing locked in yet — we’re keen to get this right, so if there’s something you’d genuinely wear or use, let us know.
