Artists of North Fremantle Inaugural Exhibition: Concentration of Creation

Artists of North Fremantle is a new community-based initiative dedicated to promoting the recognition and appreciation of artists and craftspeople of North Fremantle at the newly renovated North Freo Bowlo. North Fremantle may cover a small area between the river and the coast, but it is a diverse community, rich in creativity.

The inaugural exhibition is called Concentration of Creation and exhibiting artists include prestigious award-winners as well as supporting emerging community artists. The diversity of talent includes painters, sculptors, ceramicists and photographers. Exhibiting sculptors are the renowned Wendy Robertson, Ross Hall, and Susie Marwick. Exhibiting painters are the award-winning and popular artists Josephine Johnson and Kath Moore. Sammy Smith will be displaying his handcrafted vessels from Porch Ceramics. Western Australia’s oLicial Amnesty International photographer Matt Landy will also be exhibiting his award-winning skills as part of the exhibition. All of these artists are local residents and draw inspiration from the landscape, community and culture of North Fremantle.

The inaugural exhibition opens on June 5 at the North Freo Bowlo where art will be displayed and available for purchase across the locally beloved Club and Ladies Lounge. The Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge will open the event, with music by North Fremantle’s Dorchestra and internationally regarded singer-songwriter Carus Thompson who will keep the evening lively with a selection of his reggae-folk songs about living in North Fremantle. The North Freo Bowlo bar will be open and snacks provided. Across the weekend there will be opportunities to get involved with artist talks at 2pm each day along with portrait sketching by Kath Moore.

The event has an enthusiastic groundswell of support from the community and is only possible with generous sponsorship from The Fremantle Council and contributions from Berlin Creative, the North Freo Bowlo, Yard Property, North Freo Social Farm and Old Bridge Cellars. This level of widespread engagement speaks to the generosity of this small community and great support for the arts.
